i can’t believe another year has come and gone… how did that happen so fast?
the big 3-2 is kinda crazy. am i really nearing my mid-thirties already? sheesh.
every year i realize that birthdays are a little bit anti-climactic as you grow older. as a child, i always looked forward to big parties, lots of presents, and bday wishes from everyone i knew. as i’ve added to my collection of gray hairs (and no, i’m not talking about my halloween costume) and have a few more years under my belt, birthdays are more about celebrating the all the joy and experience from the year that has passed. this year has been full of ups and downs, moves and milestones, new jobs and new friends, business growth and growing pains, frustrations and triumphs. in the end, it was a good year.

My birthday falls incredibly close to Christmas so it’s hard distinguishing between the two. I always make sure we (husband, 3 girls, and myself) eat cake and then my husband lets the girls pick out something for me…funny thing is they always go to a farm and home store or a tractor store so my gifts have always been intersting…i.e. corn on the cob holders, a weather monitor, plastic toy ponies…treasures like that. :)

Ok, so I know this is going to make me sound SUPER vain…or maybe not. You can decide. I have now been married a little over a year, and have celebrated two birthdays as a married woman. I love my husband dearly, he is everything I’m not and wish I could be. For my birthday, we don’t just celebrate the day, we celebrate the ENTIRE WEEK leading up to Oct. 24th. It all started when we were dating and I explained how my mom used to have these big elaborate birthday parties, hand making EVERYTHING, write down to the invitations. I told him I was spoiled with birthdays, and so the first time we celebrated one as a married couple, he did not disappoint. Each day he does something special, from bringing me home my favorite snack (smartfood popcorn) and magazines, to having a picnic at sunset to picking fall leaves and tracing them with crayons (one of my favorite fall activities). I didn’t think I could be even more spoiled when it comes to birthdays, but I guess my husband has succeeded. Here’s to a birthday week, ladies :)

My dream birthday…. having my husband buy me a beautiful cake and take me out to dinner and give me flowers. I’m dreaming! None of that has ever happened, except the dinner part! But I can hope….
